Abdifatah Ibrahim
Abdifatah Daud Ibrahim is a technology leader, educator, and innovator dedicated to transforming lives through digital skills, innovation, and entrepreneurship across the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) of Kenya.
With more than eight years of experience in ICT, cybersecurity, software engineering, systems administration, and digital transformation, Abdifatah has led the design and implementation of enterprise technology solutions for universities, public institutions, and community organizations. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Information Systems Security at Strathmore University, where his research focuses on developing lightweight AI-powered intrusion detection systems for real-time cybersecurity in IoT environments.
As the founder of ASAL iLab, Abdifatah is committed to building an innovation ecosystem that equips young people with industry-relevant digital skills and empowers them to create technology-driven solutions for local and global challenges. Under his leadership, ASAL iLab delivers hands-on training in Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, Data Science, Networking, and Digital Entrepreneurship while supporting innovators through mentorship, startup incubation, and collaborative research.
Abdifatah has mentored aspiring technology professionals, delivered hundreds of hours of practical technical training, and guided learners in developing innovative projects that prepare them for careers in the digital economy. His passion lies in creating opportunities for underserved communities by making world-class technology education accessible, practical, and impactful.
His professional experience includes leading e-learning and digital transformation initiatives at Garissa University, where he designed and deployed institutional Learning Management Systems, strengthened cybersecurity, modernized web platforms, and contributed to enterprise ERP implementation. His expertise spans enterprise infrastructure, cloud technologies, software development, systems integration, ICT governance, and digital innovation.
Through ASAL iLab, Abdifatah envisions Northern Kenya becoming a leading hub for innovation and technology, producing globally competitive software engineers, cybersecurity professionals, AI specialists, and entrepreneurs who use technology to solve real-world problems and drive sustainable development.
